Machado and Silvetti Associates Retains Acella Construction for Office Build-Out in Boston

Architecture firm hires Acella Construction for interior office renovation and remodeling project at their headquarters

NORWELL, Mass. (Aug. 18, 2008)-Acella Construction Corporation, one of New England's leading construction services firms, specializing in construction management, general contracting, design-build, pre-construction and program management services, announced today that it has been retained by Machado and Silvetti Associates for the 6,000-square-foot build-out of their Boston headquarters. Machado and Silvetti Associates is a Boston-based architecture and urban design firm.

The project will take place at Machado and Silvetti's headquarters located at 560 Harrison Avenue in Boston.  Acella Construction will be responsible for the 6,000-square-foot office build-out, which will include extensive interior renovations and remodeling.

Acella Construction will work in conjunction with Machado and Silvetti, who will act as the project's architectural design team.

“This project will be a great opportunity for our team to fully realize Machado and Silvetti's vision, as they happen to be the project architect. We're very excited to continue our relationship with Machado and Silvetti and look forward to the successful completion of this project.”

Acella Construction and Machado and Silvetti have teamed up together in the past, having recently worked on the renovation and expansion of the Provincetown Art Association and Museum (PAAM).  The project saw Acella construct a state-of-the-art facility for PAAM that incorporated an existing historic structure, develop a clear sequence of gallery spaces and the expansion of the Museum School and art storage areas.  The project was completed in two phases.

With the PAAM project, Acella realized a design that met stringent sustainable design standards, earning a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Silver rating.  LEED is the rating system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), which provides a suite of standards for environmentally sustainable construction.  PAAM is the first LEED rated art museum in the United States. Significant aspects of PAAM´s green design included the construction of a thermally efficient building "skin," the use of natural light and a "daylight dimming" system for the galleries and studio spaces, as well as a photovoltaic array on the roof. The building also has a "natural ventilation system" allowing the building to be cooled with outside air.

Acella was awarded the 2006 Honor Award for Design by the Boston Society of Architects, a chapter of the American Institute of Architects, for its work on the PAAM project.
