The project consisted of site work and new construction of a 5400 S.F. group residence. The work included tree removal, connecting utilities to the campus system, walkout concrete basement foundation, wood frame structure and interior finishes able to withstand very high abuse. Challenges of this project included collaborating with The Home for Little Wanderers to coordinate the schedule with a year-round open campus.
The site for the project produced numerous challenges. As part of the project, an area of wetlands was relocated and thousands of cubic yards of structural fill material were brought on site to raise the level of the building pad and parking areas to allow for proper site drainage and sighting of the building. Another challenge was the placement of the foundations during the winter of 2004 which was extremely cold. With the use of ground heaters, we were able to complete the foundations during the winter months which allowed us to complete the project within the project schedule and allow AHS to relocate at the end of their former lease.
