JRI-Justice Resource Institute

Acella Construction was brought on as Construction Manager by the Justice Resource Institute to construct additions to and to renovate two of their existing campuses known as Pelham Academy located in Lexington, Massachusetts and The Walden School located in Concord, Massachusetts.   The programs at these two campuses provide onsite living, schooling and counseling to adolescent girls between the ages of twelve and eighteen who are emotionally and behaviorally challenged. The construction on both campuses took place while the school was operational, requiring the work to be phased to accommodate the ongoing operations of the school.  We worked closely with the school’s program directors, administrators and facility staff to develop a phasing sequence that minimized the impact on their program. We were also required to become familiar with dealing with the students that were attending the school.  It was necessary to implement strict controls as to the conduct of our sub-contractors, learn what to do if encountered by one of the students and develop safe and secure construction sites to prohibit any of the students from obtaining any tools or materials that could be destructive to their own personal health or that of others.

Acella Construction provided pre-construction and construction services for these projects.  The projects included the construction of a new three-story wood frame addition consisting of 7,000 sf to be used for classrooms/recreation room, resident quarters and staff office space. The existing 10,000 sf facility was reconfigured to accommodate new staff office areas, kitchen and dining facilities, library and resident quarters.
