Acella Construction managed historic renovation and addition:
- 4,600 s/f period-style addition in back of 199-year-old downtown Hingham landmark. Doubled space for collections storage, work-space and functions/special events. Added first-floor visitor cen-ter, commercial kitchen, handicapped-accessible bathrooms, eleva-tor, and outdoor program event space for up to 200 guests.
- Original architectural details retained while incorporating new heating/cooling systems for visitors/staff, and to preserve Museum collections/artifacts. Original barrel-ceilinged 3rd floor, with ex-pansive views of Hingham square, was renovated as a new educa-tion and research center.
- Original entrance steps were buried and replaced with curving stone stairways to match style of stone wall lining Main Street.
