Acella Construction recently completed the renovation of the Boston University Medical Center 4th floor Oral Surgery Suites, located on the University’s main medical campus at 100 East Newton Street in Boston.
The scope of the project included the complete demolition of the existing space, followed by the renovation of 7,100 square foot of office/clinical space, including 9 patient treatment rooms. The scope of work included new treatment rooms, office space, finishes, ceiling, entire mechanical, electrical, plumbing, medical gas, and fire protection.
The fourth through the seventh floors of the building were part of an addition to the original structure. The floor of the fourth floor was built on top of the roof of the original building resulting in additional planning for the mechanical portion of the project.
Because of the sensitive nature of the work and the length of the project, it was imperative that the space remained open during construction. The “live” renovation was scheduled and phased so that there was no disruption to the rest of the schools operations, which continued to operate normally. The construction teams worked many evening and midnight shifts to accommodate the continued operation of the clinic. The Architect on the project was Trapani & Associates. Ryan Klebes served as Project Manager and Brian Passino was Superintendent.
Extreme attention to detail and an understanding of the importance of medical equipment and its placement within the facility were keys in the successful completion of the project. The Oral Surgery Department is part of the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine which is celebrating its 50th year anniversary. Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine offers state-of-the-art dental care through their teaching clinic and faculty practice.
“It was a pleasure to work with Boston University and the architects from Trapani & Associates in completing this new clinical and office space,” said Dave Dirubbo, President of Acella Construction Corporation. “The project ran seamlessly as all parties worked together to keep the practice fully operational throughout the entire process.”
